Join Us! PAA Annual Meeting
On behalf of our Local Host Committee, I would like to take this opportunity to invite all PAA members, potato researchers, and industry partners to the Association’s annual meeting scheduled from July 23rd to 27th, 2023 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
Prince Edward Island has been the largest producer of potatoes in Canada for many years and continues to produce close to 25% of Canada’s potato crop. We have a long history of growing potatoes, dating back to some of the first settlers in the late 18th century. Prince Edward Island Potatoes have high brand awareness across Canada and many parts of the United States, and PEI seed potatoes continue to be exported to many international markets each year.
In partnership with the staff at AMR, we have reserved the Delta Prince Edward on the Charlottetown waterfront as the location for our meetings. Charlottetown (the capital of Prince Edward Island) is a charming small city with tree-lined streets, diverse restaurants and pubs, beautiful waterfront parks and boardwalks, and a vibrant culture including live theatre and music venues. Our committee is planning to offer agricultural and sight-seeing tours before and after the meeting, as PEI’s small size makes it easy to get around and see a lot in a day.
Prince Edward Island is an in-demand tourist destination, so anyone planning to attend the PAA 2023 meeting is encouraged to start making travel and accommodation reservations far ahead of time. Hotels and cottage rentals are booked quickly in the summer, and flights to Prince Edward Island can fill up fast. For most attendees, routing flights through either Toronto or Montreal to Charlottetown has the largest selection of flights. The international airport in Moncton, New Brunswick is also an option for those looking to explore additional travel options.
We look forward to welcoming the PAA family to Prince Edward Island for the first time since 1997. We are excited to showcase the advances that our growers and industry partners have been making in sustainable potato production and innovative technology in recent years. At the same time, we look forward to showing you a great time with true Island hospitality, complete with all of the things that PEI is known for: great food (including fresh seafood and potatoes!), a vibrant Maritime culture, beautiful sandy beaches with the warmest water north of Virginia, and a welcoming rural community where agriculture is the number one industry.
See you in Prince Edward Island in July 2023!
