Dr. Ganga Hettiarachchi is a Professor of Soil and Environmental Chemistry at Kansas State University. Dr. Hettiarachchi has been involved in numerous research projects. Her research interests have focused on improving the underlying soil chemical processes to promote sustainable and safe crop production and to protect human health. Her current research focuses on reducing the bioavailability of legacy and emerging soil contaminants to mitigate human health risks; the environmental sustainability of urban and peri-urban food systems; supporting safe agricultural production on former vacant lots/brownfields; and the beneficial use of residuals and the potential of reusing nutrients recovered from waste and wastewater.
