In this dynamic, hands-on masterclass, participants will gain new perspectives on applied foresight and its role in strategic planning. Informed by the work of the Association of Professional Futurists and insight from the IASP BOK 3.0, the masterclass is designed for strategy professionals looking to integrate new foresight insight and futures thinking into their toolkit without needing a formal background in futures studies.
The masterclass will bypass heavy theory in favour of "learning by doing." After a brief orientation on to the professional field of foresight and futures thinking, participants will immediately dive into a Three-Dimensional Foresight Framework. Working in small teams, attendees will use provided templates to move through three critical stages:
1. Horizon Mapping: Using a template for the Futures Triangle, participants will identify trends, weak signals, and drivers related to pushes of the present, pulls of the future, and weights of the past to understand systemic impacts.
2. Deep Mining: Causal Layered Analysis will be used to dive deeper into the worldviews and underlying myths that can help or hinder strategic planning.
3. Prototyping: Participants will use a 2x2 Matrix template to construct four distinct, plausible future scenarios.
The masterclass is not a lecture. It is a strategy studio (e.g., 70% hands-on labs, 20% framing, 10% reflection). Participants will learn about foresight tools and approaches, but also practice the mechanics of anticipation and the foundations of future thinking Participants will leave with a PDF e-workbook of tools and frameworks, but also the knowledge to facilitate a basic foresight sprint within their own strategy teams immediately. Whether participants are new to futures thinking or looking to refresh their foresight toolkit, this masterclass offers a grounded, jargon-free on-ramp that builds confidence, strengthens strategic agility, and helps strategy teams move complex change forward with greater purpose, impact, and momentum.
