Speaker Bio
Scott Gerald Shall, AIA, is a Professor of Architecture at Lawrence Technological University whose work operates at the intersection of technology, practice, and social equity. As an architect, educator, and activist, Shall’s career focuses on leveraging architecture to provide high-quality, sustainable environments for communities overlooked by traditional practice.

Shall is the co-founding principal of houm, a practice established in 2019 to disrupt the housing market through technological innovation. As CEO and Lead Designer, he directs the development of cost-effective, eco-friendly residential models, work that has earned significant acclaim, including several 2025 AIA Honor Awards and a 2025 Architecture MasterPrize.

Parallel to his commercial practice, Shall directs the International Design Clinic (IDC), a non-profit realizing crowd-sourced architecture across five continents. In 2008, Interior Design magazine featured the IDC alongside luminaries such as Kengo Kuma and OMA, identifying Shall as a practitioner challenging the edge of the discipline.

A prolific author and speaker, Shall has presented at the World Congress of Architects and exhibited at the Venice Architecture Biennale, MoMA, and the Zeitz MOCAA. His scholarship is published by Springer, Palgrave-MacMillan, and the AIA Press. Shall previously taught at Temple and UL Lafayette, consistently working to democratize architecture for those at society’s margins.
