A Stroke of the Brush: Making Meaningful Interpretive Decisions in Choral Music
Saturday, January 30, 2021
1:00 PM - 1:45 PM
Day-to-day teaching can feel inconsequential in the grand scheme of a school year. Much like a painter, we choral directors make thousands of musical decisions each week that coalesce into meaningful artistry. This session is an opportunity to reexamine the process of making interpretive decisions for your choirs. Several pieces from the MSVMA required list will anchor the session, giving you tools that can be directly applied to your ensembles.
Learner Outcome 1
Attendees will learn three new strategies for making interpretive decisions for their ensemble. These are methods, not instructions, therefore teachers will be able to apply them annually.
Learner Outcome 2
Various works from the MSVMA required list will be featured so as to inspire attendees to program said works for festival the next year.
Learner Outcome 3
Attendees will be given strategies to improve choral performance at festival.
