Expressivity, uniformity, and technical facility are all greatly affected by our bowing choices. However, ideas about effective bowing vary greatly among musicians. For ensemble directors, navigating the complex and often contradictory world of bowing advice can be daunting.
In this session, we explore general principles for effective bowing derived from a synthesis of both studio teacher and ensemble director perspectives. Our aim is to simplify and demystify what is often unnecessarily complex process.
