Joseph Alcocer
Brighton Area Schools
Joseph Alcocer, is a violinist and string teacher.
He is pleased to return to Brighton, Michigan as the Orchestra Director at Scranton Middle School. He also maintains a thriving private studio of violin and viola and directs the Livingston Youth Orchestra.
Joseph holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in violin performance from Huston-Tillotson University, pursued graduate study in Music Education at Eastern Michigan University and has also registered training in the Suzuki Talent Education Method with Melissa Kraut, David Strom, Laurie Scott, Mark Mutter, and Andrea Yun.
As an advocate for the Suzuki in the Schools Movement, Joseph uses his background to enhance the school orchestra curriculum with Suzuki Method principles and pedagogy. Joseph has experience applying his brand of teaching to students of all ages beginning to advanced. His previous teaching positions include the Ann Arbor Public Schools (EL, MS, HS), Maltby Intermediate School (5-6) in Brighton, and high school orchestra in his native Texas.
As a violinist, he regularly performs as a member of Michigan Philharmonic, Dearborn Symphony, Adrian Symphony, and in various freelance settings throughout southeast Michigan. During the summer, Joseph is on the violin and chamber music faculty at the Michigan ASTA string camp and has cliniced for the Novi High School Orchestra Camp, and the Pioneer Orchestra’s Interlochen retreat among others.
When not teaching or playing music, Joseph is often seen living his best life at an arcade or a comic book shop.
