Saturday, January 30, 2021
4:00 PM - 4:45 PM
Retention is one of the most important factors of teaching an elective! The ability to keep students in the band, choir and orchestra program takes effort, persistence and musical excellence. This session will explore ways for the music teacher to keep students participating in the music program. We will discuss building student relationships while demanding musical excellence. The session is geared toward both middle school and high school music teachers.
Learning Objective 1
Apply important social emotional concepts to foster positive student/teacher/peer relationships in the classroom. Building trust is one of the most critical reasons whether a child continues.
Learning Objective 2
Develop strategies to engage students, both in and out of the music rehearsal. These include field trips, overnight trips, extracurricular opportunities, and methods to make rehearsal fun!
Learning Objective 3
Develop methods to make rehearsal positive and productive. Kids flock to a successful music program. They will continue participating in great ensembles.
